The Starbucks at 29588 Rancho California Road closed permanently Saturday, Sept. 26. The Temecula store was one of four Inland Empire locations that closed as part of a nationwide wave of 250 Starbucks shutdowns.

The company-owned store near the Ynez Road intersection served its last customers Saturday before posting permanent-closure signs in the windows, according to Patch. The Los Angeles Times confirmed the location is no longer listed in the Starbucks app and is marked "permanently closed" on Google.

As we reported Sept. 25, the Temecula store was among closures Starbucks announced Thursday, Sept. 24. The other Inland Empire locations that closed are in Ontario, San Bernardino and Upland.

Behind the closures

Starbucks Chief Operating Officer Mike Grams announced the closures in a letter to employees posted Thursday, Sept. 24. Grams wrote that the company targeted stores where it could not consistently deliver the customer experience it wants or see a path to acceptable financial performance.

The 250 closures represent about 1% of Starbucks' more than 18,000 North American coffeehouses. Starbucks expects to take roughly $300 million in charges from the shutdowns, including $200 million for early lease terminations and employee severance, CNN reported.

This is the second major round of closures under CEO Brian Niccol, who joined Starbucks in 2024. The company closed 627 stores in North America and Europe in September 2025 and laid off 900 non-retail employees, according to ABC7.

What it means for employees

The exact number of workers affected at the Temecula location is not publicly known. Starbucks said it would offer transfer opportunities where possible and severance support for employees who cannot be placed at another store.

Employees at some closing locations learned their fate on short notice. Patch reported that workers at one Bay Area branch expected to find out the day after closing whether they still had jobs at other stores.

Starbucks Workers United, the labor union representing baristas, told USA Today that 20 unionized coffeehouses nationwide are affected. The union said it plans to engage in bargaining so displaced workers can be placed at stores matching their preferences.

Where Temecula customers can go

Temecula still has roughly 10 other Starbucks locations along Rancho California Road, Ynez Avenue, Jefferson Avenue, Old Town Front Street, Highway 79 South and Winchester Road near the Promenade Temecula. Hours and availability vary by location.

Starbucks directed customers to check Starbucks.com or the Starbucks app for updated store information. No replacement location has been announced.
