The Starbucks at 29588 Rancho California Road near Ynez Road permanently closes Saturday, Sept. 26. The Temecula store is one of four Inland Empire locations shutting down as part of 250 nationwide Starbucks closures.

The other three closing Inland Empire stores are in Ontario (4321 E. Ontario Mills Pkwy.), San Bernardino (291 E. Hospitality Lane) and Upland (1943 North Campus Ave.), according to Temecula Patch. Each location's app listing shows no hours past Saturday afternoon.

Starbucks did not release an official list of closing stores. The company told SFGATE that "coffeehouses that are closing will have signage up this weekend to notify customers."

Chief Operating Officer Mike Grams announced the closures in a letter to employees published Thursday, Sept. 24. Grams said the company reviewed its portfolio and is closing locations that could not meet its standards for customer experience or financial performance. Affected workers will be offered transfers where possible, with severance for those who cannot be placed, the letter said.

Patch reported that employees at many closing branches face uncertainty. One Bay Area worker confirmed a transfer, but others said they would not learn until Sunday, Sept. 27, whether they still have jobs.

How many people work at the Temecula location is not known. No information is available on whether those employees have received transfer offers.

Across California, 64 Starbucks locations are expected to close, roughly 2.1% of the state's 3,058 stores, Patch reported. The Inland Empire's four closures are part of that count.

The move is the second major round of closures under CEO Brian Niccol, who joined Starbucks in 2024. The company closed 627 stores in North America and Europe in September 2025, KTLA reported. Starbucks expects about $300 million in restructuring charges tied to the latest round, according to CNBC. About $200 million covers lease terminations and employee separation costs. The remaining $100 million is in non-cash asset charges.

Despite the cuts, Starbucks projects 440 net new store openings in fiscal 2026, down from a prior outlook of 600 to 650. The company has not announced plans for a replacement location in Temecula.
