Temecula families can trunk-or-treat with local first responders at the city's free Halloween Carnival on Friday, Oct. 30.

The Temecula Community Services Department announced the annual event will run from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Temecula Civic Center, 41000 Main St. The evening includes carnival games, costume contests and trunk-or-treating with first responders.

Admission is free. All ages are welcome.

The carnival is one of two Halloween programs the department is bringing back this year. The second is the Halloween Home Decorating Display, which puts participating homes on the city's official Halloween Home Decorating Map.

Residents who decorate their homes for the holiday can apply online at TemeculaCA.gov/Events to land a spot on the map. Once published, the map will be available online so neighbors can drive or walk past decorated houses around the city. The department's announcement did not list a deadline for submissions.

Volunteers needed

High school students looking for community service hours can sign up to help run carnival games at the Oct. 30 event. The Community Services Department is accepting student volunteers, and a registration form is posted on the city's event calendar page.

The department did not specify how many volunteers it needs or whether spots are limited.

Three sponsors are backing the carnival: Big B's Plumbing, Electric, Heating & Air; Bowser Realty; and Costco Wholesale. Updates on the event will be posted to @TemeculaParksAndRec on Facebook and Instagram.
