Temecula will host its first community-wide volunteer day on Saturday, Oct. 17, with 12 hands-on projects spread across local nonprofits.
The city announced the event, called Temecula Together: Day of Service, on Tuesday, Sept. 15. Volunteers can pick from projects including tree planting, landscape maintenance, fence painting, creek and trail cleanup, community beautification, furniture assembly, workshop organization and care bag packaging at sites throughout the city.
The event is the city's first community-service day initiative, Patch reported.
Seven nonprofit and community partners are hosting projects: the Boys & Girls Club Southwest County, Habitat for Humanity, His Little Feet, HomeAid Inland Empire, Jacob's House, Mission Hope and the Southwest Riverside County Association of Realtors.
Mayor Jessica Alexander said the initiative centers on what the city is calling "Community Serving Community."
"There is something incredibly special about neighbors helping neighbors and people coming together to make our community a better place," Alexander said in the city's announcement. "I invite everyone in Temecula to find a way to be part of this special day."
Residents who cannot join a hands-on project have other options. They can write Messages of Kindness for deployed military service members or seniors living in care facilities. The city is also collecting donated items for military care packages through MilVet's Support Our Troops program.
Age requirements and adult accompaniment rules vary by project. Registration is required.
