The Riverside County Board of Supervisors will vote Tuesday, Oct. 6, on $88,350 in community grants for 17 organizations across the Third District, which includes Temecula, Murrieta, Wildomar and Menifee.

The Rotary Club of Temecula Valley New Generations, a Temecula-based public charity focused on community improvement, is among the listed recipients. The county's meeting agenda does not break down how much each organization would receive from the $88,350 pot.

Third District Supervisor Chuck Washington is sponsoring the item. The money would come entirely from the county's General Fund and requires a four-fifths vote of the five-member board to pass.

The grants fall under the county's Community Improvement Designation program, established in the 2005-06 fiscal year. Each supervisor receives a CID allocation to distribute within their district. The program funds educational and recreational projects, arts and cultural programs, environmental initiatives and economic development efforts across Riverside County.

According to the Third District's grant application policy, only organizations that directly benefit Third District residents are eligible. Recipients must provide a full accounting within 60 days of using the funds. The policy also bars CID grants from being awarded within 60 days of an election in which the awarding supervisor is on the ballot.

The grants are not automatic. Each cycle, organizations must apply, and approval does not guarantee future funding.

Other recipients on Washington's list include the Murrieta Rotary Foundation, Murrieta Chamber of Commerce, Greater Menifee Valley Chamber of Commerce, Wildomar Community and Parks Foundation, City of Hemet Fire Department, Voices for Children and Cultivating Inclusion, Inc. The full list spans youth services, community clubs and public safety groups.

The same agenda carries two smaller CID items: $6,500 from the Second District for ABC Hopes Inc. and the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Redlands-Riverside, and $5,000 from the Fifth District for the Riverside Community College District Foundation. Year-end budget adjustments totaling $51.6 million are also on the docket.

The meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. at the County Administrative Center, 4080 Lemon St., Riverside. Residents who want to speak must register at rivcocob.org at least 24 hours in advance and call in before 9 a.m. Written comments can be sent to [email protected].
