Three Temecula-area football teams face ranked opponents Friday, Sept. 11, with the area's only remaining unbeaten squads squaring off when Temecula Valley hosts Hillcrest.

Temecula Valley (3-0) and Hillcrest (3-0) have each won every game through two weeks. The Golden Bears edged Paloma Valley 17-16 on Sept. 3 after the Wildcats missed an extra-point try. Quarterback Caden Chrisman threw a touchdown pass to Canaan Campbell in that game, and running back Deven Krause led the ground attack with 78 yards, according to the Press Enterprise.

Hillcrest brings a punishing ground game. Running back Reyez Ortiz ran for 233 yards on 36 carries and scored four touchdowns in the Trojans' 35-13 win over Ramona on Sept. 3. Nico Bernal caught a touchdown pass and added 10 tackles and a sack on defense. Hillcrest is ranked No. 18 in the IE Varsity Inland rankings. Temecula Valley is listed on the bubble of those same rankings at 3-0.

Chaparral hosts Rancho Cucamonga

No. 4 Chaparral (1-2) welcomes No. 3 Rancho Cucamonga (2-1) in a matchup the Los Angeles Times' Prep Rally newsletter called one of the week's most intriguing games.

The Pumas are still adjusting without starting quarterback Dane Weber, a senior committed to Cal, who has been sidelined by a thumb injury. Sophomore Caden Sterba has filled in. In Chaparral's Week 1 win over San Juan Hills, 31-19, Sterba passed for 202 yards and three touchdowns. Receivers Michael Farinas and Eli Woodward each caught two scoring passes, and Tyler Roney and Kameron Payne combined for 29 tackles and three sacks on defense. Chaparral fell 32-20 to San Clemente on Sept. 4.

Rancho Cucamonga is coming off a 25-17 loss to Oak Hills on Sept. 3. The Times picked Chaparral to win.

Great Oak travels to Murrieta Mesa

Great Oak (2-1) heads to Murrieta Mesa (2-1) in a matchup of IE Varsity top-10 teams. The Wolfpack are ranked No. 9 and the Rams No. 10.

Great Oak opened the season with a 42-21 rout of Vista Murrieta on Aug. 20, with quarterback Trent Lux throwing five touchdowns. The Wolfpack fell 35-27 to Capistrano Valley on Sept. 4. Head coach Herschel Ramirez was named the Los Angeles Chargers' Orange County/Inland Empire Coach of the Week on Sept. 3, according to the school's athletics account on X.

Murrieta Mesa ground out a 7-0 double-overtime win over Rancho Verde on Sept. 4. Senior linebacker Chris Flores has anchored the Rams' defense, averaging 14.0 tackles per game and 2.5 sacks through three games, according to MaxPreps. Senior running back Nathan Cruz leads the rushing attack at 57.0 yards per game.

All three games kick off Friday, Sept. 11.
