Three Temecula football teams will host CIF Southern Section (CIF-SS) first-round playoff games on Friday, Nov. 6, after the bracket pairings were released Sunday.
Chaparral, Great Oak and Temecula Valley each drew home matchups. All three games are scheduled for 7 p.m., according to IE Varsity's playoff schedule.
Chaparral hosts Orange in Division 2
The Pumas landed the No. 1 seed in Division 2, according to the San Bernardino Sun. Chaparral finished No. 9 in the hsratings.com rankings used to determine playoff divisions. An eight-team Division 1 bracket kept the Pumas out of that top tier, giving them the top spot in Division 2.
Chaparral (6-4) will face Orange, which completed a perfect 10-0 regular season. The Panthers capped that run with a 57-31 win over El Toro, according to the Orange County Register. Orange quarterback Star Thomas III threw for 289 yards and four touchdowns in that game.
Chaparral head coach Andrew Ramer told the San Bernardino Sun his team was ready for either division. "Division 2 is going to be a challenge. There are no easy games there," Ramer said.
Senior receiver M. (Kiko) Farinas leads the Pumas with 1,050 receiving yards and 17 total touchdowns, according to MaxPreps. Senior quarterback Dane Weber averages 83.4 rushing yards per game. The Pumas closed the regular season with a 49-14 road win over Vista Murrieta on Oct. 29.
Great Oak hosts Bonita in Division 3
Great Oak (8-2) earned the No. 3 seed in Division 3, according to the San Bernardino Sun. The Wolfpack won the Southwestern League title with a 5-0 league record, according to MaxPreps.
Great Oak closed the regular season on a five-game winning streak, capped by a 57-6 rout of Corona on Oct. 29. Senior receiver Kannon Terracciano leads the offense with 87.7 receiving yards per game and 11 touchdowns. Junior quarterback Trent Lux has piled up 2,881 total yards.
Bonita (10-0) out of La Verne went undefeated in the regular season, finishing first in its league at 5-0, according to MaxPreps. Senior running back Joseph Lara leads the Bearcats with 94.7 rushing yards per game and 14 touchdowns.
Temecula Valley hosts Oaks Christian in Division 5
Temecula Valley (9-1) hosts Oaks Christian (3-7) in a Division 5 first-round game. The Golden Bears finished second in the Big West-South at 4-1, with their lone loss coming to Great Oak, 33-10, on Oct. 16, according to MaxPreps.
Temecula Valley scored 200 points and allowed 147 during the regular season. The Golden Bears won their final two games, beating Corona 41-27 on Oct. 23 and Roosevelt 20-13 on Oct. 29.
Oaks Christian started 0-6 but won three of its last four games to grab an automatic playoff berth, according to the Ventura County Star. "We just needed to focus on playing our best football and we did," Oaks Christian head coach Rudy Carlton told the Ventura County Star.
All three first-round games are Friday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m. at the home stadiums of Chaparral, Great Oak and Temecula Valley.
