Great Oak High School athletes can train in track and field this winter through a seven-week program starting Dec. 1, according to a flyer posted on the school's campus site.

The program runs through Jan. 16 and covers five event groups: sprints and hurdles, high jump, long and triple jump, distance running, and shot put and discus. Every registered athlete receives a winter gear pack, and winter competitions are available as an optional activity.

Practice times vary by event:

  • Sprints: 6–8 p.m., Monday through Thursday
  • High jump: 4–6 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; 3–5 p.m. Wednesday
  • Long/triple jump: 4–5:30 p.m., Tuesday through Friday
  • Throws (shot put and discus): 4–6 p.m., Monday, Wednesday and Friday
  • Distance: 4–5:30 p.m., Monday, Tuesday and Thursday

Registration gives athletes access to each event group. Schedules are subject to change based on facility availability.

Families can register through Go Pack Events, according to the flyer. A Go Pack Foundation waiver is required to participate.

Athletes with questions can contact Coach Draughon at [email protected]. The school's athletics site notes that the coach can only communicate with enrolled Great Oak students.

The winter program leads into the spring 2027 track and field season, which the athletics site says will start in January 2027. Athletes playing a different winter sport will join the spring track season once that sport's season ends. All spring athletes need to be athletically cleared before competing.
