Temecula Valley Unified School District’s $215 million Measure S bond proposal remains below the 55% approval threshold required for passage, according to the latest available election results.

The measure had received 15,939 yes votes, or 52.5%, compared with 14,401 no votes, or 47.5%, in the results tracker’s latest reported update. The tally represents 30,340 votes.

The figures reflect an increase in support from the 51.91% reported in early returns on Nov. 4. However, Measure S still needs to reach 55% to pass. The latest accessible results tracker lists its update time as 5:15 p.m. Nov. 4; a newer Nov. 6 tally could not be independently verified.

What Measure S would fund

The bond measure would authorize TVUSD to issue up to $215 million in bonds for repairs and improvements across district schools.

The proposed projects include repairing aging classrooms and school facilities, upgrading science and career technology labs, and addressing deteriorating roofs, plumbing, gas and electrical systems.

If approved, property owners within district boundaries would pay an estimated $20 per $100,000 of assessed property value annually while the bonds are outstanding. The measure also includes provisions for citizen oversight and financial audits.

Why the 55% threshold matters

Unlike some local ballot measures that require a simple majority, California school bond measures generally need at least 55% voter approval.

That means a narrow majority of yes votes is not enough for Measure S to pass. At 52.5%, the measure remains 2.5 percentage points below the required threshold.

Results remain unofficial

The available figures are not a certified final result. Riverside County election officials must complete the canvass and certification process before the outcome is final.

The county's election information is available through the Riverside County Registrar of Voters. Readers can also review the Riverside County election results tracker for reported updates.

As of Nov. 6, the latest results I could verify show Measure S trailing the threshold needed for passage.
